Quilt Shell Fabrics

Quilt shell fabrics have been designed and manufactured exclusively for El Coyote Quilts. All of our ultralight nylon fabrics are calendered, down-proof and have a DWR (durable water-resistant) finish.

DWR does not mean waterproof but it will help to repel light mist and moisture and will aid in drying should the quilt get wet. Both inner liner and outer shell fabrics have been specifically designed to be incredibly soft, unlike similar fabrics that can have a plastic or sticky feel against the skin.

Outer Fabric

Outer shell fabric is a 15 denier, micro ripstop grid nylon. It is calendared, breathable and exceptionally soft with a quality DWR finish.

Our high thread count 15d is the perfect balance between lightweight and durability. At only .88 oz/yd², it is lighter than 20D and more durable than 10D.

This fabric was chosen for the outer shell to add years of life to the quilt with only a very small weight penalty over 10D (under .75 oz. for a size regular/regular quilt).

Durability is a relative term in dealing with ultralight fabrics. Always take good care of your ultralight gear.

Inner Shell

Inner shell lining is a high density, 10 denier, nylon taffeta fabric. This fabric was chosen for its light weight and extremely soft hand feel.

It feels incredible against the skin while still having a calendered, downproof treatment and a quality DWR finish.

This high thread count fabric has a finished weight of only .65 oz/yd². Available in a black (bottom) or dark charcoal grey (top) color. These dark colors will help to dry the quilt more quickly in the sun should it get wet.
